The Islamic Society of Michiana (ISM) supports families during times of loss by helping them navigate the Islamic funeral process with care, dignity, and compassion. Our dedicated volunteers assist with funeral rites and services in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Funeral Services
Ghusl (Ritual Washing)
ISM volunteers can assist with the Ghusl of the deceased upon request. The ritual washing is performed in accordance with Islamic guidelines and with the utmost care and respect.
Janazah Prayer
ISM conducts the Salat al-Janazah (funeral prayer) and provides support to the family and community during this time.
Burial Options
Highland Cemetery — South Bend
ISM has purchased burial lots at Highland Cemetery on Portage Avenue in South Bend. Families wishing to reserve a burial lot for a loved one should contact the Imam or a member of the ISM Board.
Fairview Cemetery — Mishawaka
A designated Muslim burial section is available at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. For burial arrangements, families may contact the cemetery directly or speak with the ISM Imam.
Kafan & Funeral Supplies
Kafan (shrouds) and other necessary funeral supplies are available through the Imam at the masjid. Please contact the Imam for availability and arrangements.
Islamic Last Will
ISM provides an Islamic Last Will form to help community members document their wishes and make appropriate preparations for end-of-life matters in accordance with Islamic principles.
