Counseling Services
The Islamic Society of Michiana (ISM) recognizes the importance of emotional, social, and spiritual well-being for individuals and families in our community. Our counseling services provide faith-based guidance rooted in Islamic values and are available to community members seeking support with family, marital, and personal concerns.
Family Counseling
Family counseling provides an opportunity for individuals and families to discuss concerns and seek guidance in a supportive and confidential setting.
Common areas of discussion include:
- Parenting and child-rearing
- Family conflicts and communication
- Strengthening family relationships
- Social and financial challenges
- Personal and family concerns
Our Imam offers guidance based on Islamic principles and helps families explore constructive ways to address their concerns. When additional or specialized support is needed, individuals may be referred to qualified local therapists or mental health professionals.
Marriage Counseling
Marriage counseling at ISM helps couples work through challenges and strengthen their relationships. Guidance may include:
- Improving communication between spouses
- Resolving conflicts and misunderstandings
- Understanding Islamic marital responsibilities
- Strengthening the marital relationship
- Pre-marital guidance for couples preparing for marriage
How Counseling Works
Counseling is offered based on the needs of the community. Imam Mohammad Sirajuddin meets with individuals and families throughout the week, including after Jumu’ah prayers and at other scheduled times.
Counseling sessions are offered free of charge and are conducted with respect for the privacy of those seeking guidance.
While Imam Mohammad Sirajuddin has a background in Community Mental Health Counseling, ISM’s counseling services are intended to provide Islamic and pastoral guidance and are not a substitute for professional mental health care, medical treatment, or psychotherapy.
Individuals who require specialized or ongoing professional support may be referred to qualified local professionals.
Confidentiality & Free Support
ISM strives to provide a welcoming and respectful environment where individuals and families can seek guidance without financial barriers. Conversations are handled with appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity.
Our goal is to support members of our community in navigating personal, family, and spiritual challenges while helping them access additional professional resources when needed.
