Imam Mohammad Sirajuddin
Imam, Islamic Society of Michiana
Imam Mohammad Sirajuddin has served as the Imam of the Islamic Society of Michiana (ISM) since 1998. For more than two decades, he has served the South Bend and Michiana Muslim community through prayer, teaching, counseling, community programs, and spiritual guidance.
Background & Education
Before joining the South Bend community, Imam Sirajuddin taught Arabic Literature and Qur’anic Exegesis at Jamia Islamia Darul-Uloom in Hyderabad, India, for three years. He also served as an assistant editor for the Arabic quarterly magazine Islamic Awakening (Al-Sahwa Al-Islamiah).
His academic background includes:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Sciences — Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow, India
- Bachelor’s Degree in Eastern Languages — Osmania University, Hyderabad, India
- Master’s Degree in Comparative Religion — Darul-Uloom Hyderabad, India
- Master’s Degree in Educational Sciences, Community Mental Health Counseling & Human Services — Indiana University South Bend, USA
- Leadership Training Course — Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), Plainfield, Indiana, 2004
In addition to his academic education, Imam Sirajuddin has memorized the entire Qur’an and holds a Diploma in Tajweed, focusing on the principles and proper recitation of the Qur’an.
He also completed a Diploma in Arabic Language and Islamic Culture through a program sponsored by the Islamic University of Madinah and conducted in New Delhi, India.
Journey with the Qur’an
Imam Sirajuddin began memorizing the Qur’an at the age of 10. His early study of the Qur’an developed into a lifelong connection with its message and teachings.
Through his continued study and reflection, he developed a deep appreciation for the Qur’an’s guidance on human nature, spirituality, and the relationship between the Creator and His creation.
Spiritual Leadership & Community Service
As the Imam of ISM, Imam Sirajuddin leads the daily prayers, delivers Jumu’ah sermons, teaches Islamic classes, and supports a wide range of religious and educational programs.
He is also involved in counseling and providing spiritual guidance to individuals and families in the community. A particular focus of his ministry is supporting young Muslims and helping the next generation develop a strong understanding and connection to Islam.
Serving the Michiana Muslim community for many years, he continues to contribute to the religious, educational, and spiritual life of ISM.
Connecting with the Community
Imam Sirajuddin values spending time with community members of all ages, particularly children and youth. His involvement with young people extends beyond the classroom, helping foster positive relationships and a welcoming environment at the masjid.
